It is perfect for getting to know the surroundings, from the beaches of Isla Canela, the golf course of Costa Esuri or visiting the beaches of Portugal (Monte Gordo).

In Punta del Moral and Isla Canela you can take boat trips to Isla Cristina, jet skis, bicycles, buguis, boats to see dolphins, sports facilities (paddle tennis, tennis, football, etc.)..

A little History of Ayamonte
At the mouth of the Guadiana River in the Atlantic, there was already a Greek settlement called Anapotaman (on the river) at the time of the Second Punic War (200 BC).
Later a Roman castle guarded the mouth of the Ostium Fluminis Anae. From there, an important trade route led north to Mérida. It is believed that Ayamonte occupied a strategically important position during this period.
In more recent times, evidence of a settlement in the area has been discovered as early as the Copper Age (4300 - 2200 BC) (Cabezo del Romeral dolmen).
Ayamonte in the 17th century
In 1239 the Moors were expelled by the troops of King Sancho II of Portugal and the town came under the rule of the Order of Santiago. In 1263, the Guadiana River was established as a border between Portugal and Spain, and the town came under the sovereignty of the Crown of Castile. In the early 14th century, Ayamonte, along with Lepe, became the property of the Guzmán family.

In 1471, the Duke of Béjar, Pedro de Zúñiga, received the title of Count of Ayamonte, and in 1521, King Charles I granted Francisco de Zúñiga y Guzmán II the title of Marquis and Lord of the estate of Ayamonte.
In the 16th century, the port of Ayamonte acquired a certain strategic importance, as large ships could enter it.
In 1664, Ayamonte received from King Felipe IV the title of very noble and royal city.
At the end of the 20th century, tourism became important and tourists, mainly Spanish, discovered the beaches of Isla Canela and Punta del Moral, which are about 7 km from the town, and created the two urbanisations Isla Canela and Punta del Moral.
