Chiclana is located in the Andalusian province of Cadiz. The city has a temperate climate, with plenty of sunshine, little rain, more than 3000 hours of sunshine and an average annual temperature of 19ºC.
The city has recently become an important tourist centre, thanks to its beautiful natural landscape. Part of the city lies within the Natural Park of the Bay of Cadiz and its landscape includes dunes, beaches, pine forests and marshes. The town itself is typically Andalusian, with whitewashed houses, historical monuments, parks and markets.
Chiclana is a wine producing region - visit one of the many bodegas and taste the exceptional wine, Moscatel or Oloroso.
Within the beaches we have:
Sancti Petri, with its marina and fishing port. Water sports such as sailing, surfing and windsurfing are very popular here and a ferry makes regular trips along the coast. Just off the coast is the island of Sancti Petri with its Phoenician castle.
Another beautiful beach is La Barrosa, with its 8 km of fine sand and clear water, La Barrosa beach is one of the main attractions. Part of the beach has beautiful dunes and cliffs, where the resorts were built in order to insert them into the beautiful natural landscape, but there is no lack of good sports facilities.
The typical local cuisine includes fresh fish, seafood, pork dishes and cakes. Sausages such as Butifaras and Longanizas are typical of this region and a speciality not to be missed are the almond tarts made by the Augustinian nuns.
